Align: Getting On the Same Page |
Align is the second phase in Duo-Gard’s proprietary approach to project development, Achieve 360°. We caught up with Dave Miller, President of Duo-Gard for some insights into the Alignment phase.
“Align is where we ensure that everyone is on the same page for the overall project. We make sure we’re all in agreement with project scope to get an accurate budget,” explains Miller. Duo-Gard uses Align sessions to review several key criteria including translucent technology options to achieve project goals. Miller says there are more than 50 viable translucent panels on the market. With 40 years of experience in designing, fabricating and installing high-performance translucent projects, Duo-Gard can advise on appropriate material selection. Duo-Gard considers several factors such as thermal, heat, light and ultraviolet transmission. “The environment of the project is an important variable in Align. “A hospital in Texas and a stadium in Minnesota may have similar goals, but the material solutions could differ considerably when we account for environmental factors like heat transmission or snow loads,” notes Miller. The panel and glazing system usually drive the structural requirements for a project. This is where Duo-Gard adds real value. “We look at the entire project and recommend functional synergies that can help reduce cost. Because Duo-Gard builds what we design, we help minimize the number of contactors estimating on the project. This means a more accurate budget and material optimization. I’ve seen a lot of overbuilt structures that don’t take into account the glazing system. During Align, Duo-Gard worked with a client on a stadium project to devise a system that saved $1.5 million in steel costs,” says Miller.
