Duo-Gard Canopy Creates Convenience for Customers at Mariano’s Northbrook
November 28, 2016
Not long after the Mariano’s supermarket in Northbrook IL was finished in August 2015, Duo-Gard engineered an amenity that further enhanced the grocery giant’s reputation for customer service and convenience: a translucent canopy 200 feet long by 13 feet wide.
Running from the store’s parking lot to the entrance, the canopy was added to provide customers with year-round protection from the harsh winters and stormy summers in Illinois. The store is the chain’s largest – 70,000 square feet – and anchors the 770 NorthShore
Development, a mixed-use plan including apartments and retail space.
The canopy is Duo-Gard’s Sleekline system, engineered with solid-sheet polycarbonate and aluminum framing as a high-performance solution with a low profile, free-flow panel ends, panel lengths up to 30 feet and exceptional design flexibility with significant cost savings. Options in thicknesses, textures and transparencies complement this flexibility. Mariano’s canopy features one-quarter-inch glazing sheets in a translucent opal tint and bone-white aluminum with a Kynar finish.
According to Blake Pavelich, Duo-Gard’s national sales manager, a Sleekline system wasn’t the initial consideration. “They were considering several polycarbonate sheet options and were unaware of Duo-Gard’s diverse canopy offerings. Duo-Gard provided a pre-engineered, fabricated and installed turn-key solution with a single-source warranty for the client,” says Pavelich. “The Sleekline system option, which fastened directly to the trellis framework, provided a low slope with excellent water management and offered a more attractive aesthetic appearance without altering the existing canopy substructure design.”
